Police Nab Carjackers Using BlackBerry GPS?

Sounds like something out of a crime fighting movie right? Well it isn't.
According to the Hamilton Spector, cops from the Hamilton PD were able to locate and apprehend a carjacker based on GPS from the BlackBerry device.

The coppers were able to locate the device because the phone was turned on, even though a call was not being made to it.

The GPS was used to locate it but, if GPS was not enabled on the device the police would still have been able to get it location as "In the case of a BlackBerry, in every example, because of its inherent push (for e-mail) where it goes out to the server and tries to locate or grab an e-mail that may be sitting there, waiting ... it's communicating with the network on a very consistent and regular basis."
